Webidoo Insight Lab is born: the new hub for SME research and digital innovation

Con un primo studio sul ruolo dell’evoluzione digitale nella crescita delle PMI dell’UE, presentato con orgoglio al Parlamento Europeo, nasce l’unità di ricerca Webidoo Insight Lab.

In an increasingly multifaceted and complex digital landscape, having access to structured data can be crucial to the fate of businesses that want to navigate the marketplace.

And it is in this awareness that Webidoo Insight Lab has its roots, with the aim of shedding light on the specific needs of small and medium-sized enterprises and proposing strategic solutions for their growth through a data-driven approach.

To get a comprehensive view of the trends that really impact the success of businesses, we believe it is necessary to go beyond national borders. Therefore, we decided to broaden our horizons and analyze data on business digitization across the European Union.

È un progetto ambizioso, che vede come suo primo risultato il Digital Growth Index (SME – DIGIX) 2023, un nuovo indice che esplora diversi aspetti della digitalizzazione delle imprese e che impatta direttamente sull’evoluzione delle aziende.

SME Digital Growth Index (SME – DIGIX): a new Index

“Il nostro primo report SME Digital Growth IndeX 2023 mette in luce il ruolo dell’evoluzione digitale nella crescita delle imprese dell’Unione Europea, attraverso un’analisi dettagliata sullo stato della digitalizzazione delle PMI dell’UE”, dichiara Giovanni Farese, General Manager di Webidoo SpA.

“Our research aims to highlight the link between the level of digitization and growth of small and medium-sized enterprises in the EU through an innovative indicator, the SME – DIGIX, which fills an important gap in the literature.”

Indeed, the indicators available to date, such as DESI for example, did not fully take into account the specific needs of small and medium-sized enterprises. And this prevented really capturing the most strategic elements for the economic growth of EU companies.

The SME – DIGIX developed by Webidoo Insight Lab is a new tool designed to quantify, sort and interpret digital presence and technology adoption by SMEs.

The purpose? To take an analytical approach to help businesses remain competitive in an interconnected global marketplace.

The key variables on which the EMS – DIGIX is based are five and span all facets of business digitization: digital presence, digital commerce, technology infrastructure, research and innovation, and digital skills.

Italy’s position in the digitization of SMEs

Da questa prima ricerca emerge che l’Italia a livello di digitalizzazione si posiziona al 19° posto su 27 paesi dell’Unione Europea. Questo dato rappresenta un punto di partenza per un dialogo costruttivo sulle opportunità di crescita e sulle aree di miglioramento per le PMI italiane nel contesto digitale europeo.

Also in the report, we can see that Italy stands out for its strong use of cloud services, but still has room for improvement in terms of digital presence, digital commerce, research and innovation, and digital skills.

In conclusion, Italian SMEs still have ample room to grow in terms of digitization. And we are here to accompany them on this path.
